Susanville Rancheria, Susanville, California
![]() |
The Susanville Rancheria invited SSP in 2011 to repair homes and do other community improvement work on its rancheria located in the town of Susanville. SSP has been invited back to work in the community again in 2012. Located in northeastern California in Lassen County, Susanville has about 14,000 residents.
The rancheria was established in the 1920's; members are descendents of Maidu, Pit River, Paiute and Washoe Native Americans. The tribe currently has about 700 members and holds over 1000 acres of land. The tribe has a number of small businesses, including a small casino and hotel. There is an active home-maintenance department which we will be working closely with. |
| Accommodations | Volunteers will be housed in the tribe's new Joaquin Memorial Sports Center which has a very large gym and bathrooms. Meals will be prepared next door by our cooks at the tribe's Eatery (Senior Nutrition Center). Eating will most likely be split between indoors and outdoors.
We will shower at Lassen Community College, just two miles away. |
| Type of Work |
We expect that most of our work will be on homes in the older, original part of the Rancheria. Many of these homes are in need of repairs and painting. We anticipate a variety of porch, stair, and wheelchair ramp projects as well as painting. We also will assist the tribe in building a campground.![]() ![]() |

Expect highs in the low 90's and nights in the mid 40's. The elevation of the area is over 4,000 feet. |
