Central American Program
![]() |
The Sierra Service Project has sent teams of young people to serve and learn in Honduras and Guatemala, two of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, since 2003. These are challenging, life-changing and extremely rewarding experiences for mature young people eager to grow in faith and understanding. These projects focus on social justice; participants immerse themselves in the local culture, working alongside community members in both rural and urban settings. Our programs are led by experienced, bilingual North and Central American staff members.
We offer two different types of projects: |
| Study-and-Serve | Piloted in 2011, SSP will again send a small team of youth and young adults to Guatemala, to explore the country by visiting and working in several different communities. Participants will spend nine days in-country and will contribute to a variety of service projects.
Dates: Saturday, June 2 - Tuesday, June 12, 2012 |
| Honduras Home Building | This is SSP’s longest-running program in Central America and is organized in close cooperation with the United Methodist Church in Honduras. Since its beginning in 2003, SSP has built 37 houses working with and for local Honduran families living in extreme poverty. We will have two sessions during the summer of 2012 both in the community of Potrerillos.

| Our Values and Principles | All of us live in a shrinking world and are participants in a globalized economy. The following values guide everything that Sierra Service Project does in Central America:
