Youth mortaring bricks in Honduras The Sierra Service Project has sent teams of young people to serve and learn in Honduras and Guatemala, two of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, since 2003. These are challenging, life-changing and extremely rewarding experiences for mature young people eager to grow in faith and understanding. These projects focus on social justice; participants immerse themselves in the local culture, working alongside community members in both rural and urban settings. Our programs are led by experienced, bilingual North and Central American staff members.

We offer two different types of projects:
Space is limited in these projects, so register early.

Our Values and Principles All of us live in a shrinking world and are participants in a globalized economy.  The following values guide everything that Sierra Service Project does in Central America:

  • Learning about social justice in HondurasHaving a light footprint in our host communities.
  • Whenever possible, do things which build and strengthen local youth organizations and Honduran and Guatemalan Non-Governmental Organizations.
  • Treating our hosts as equals with respect and dignity.
  • Promoting the exchange of values, faith, language, culture and ideas.
  • Encourage US young people and their churches to support Honduran and Guatemalan churches, and their communities in sustainable ways.
  • Foster local economic development.
