Staff In Training (SIT) Program

SSP's staff-in-training (SIT) program provides potential staff members with a preview of the life of an SSP summer staffer.  Each SIT spends one week on an SSP project site rotating through the various staff positions of a camp, trying each one on for size. Individuals who participate in our SIT program do so voluntarily without pay and are responsible for getting themselves to and from their prospective site.

Who should consider being an SIT for a week?

Anyone with a serious interest in being on staff at SSP should consider signing up for an SIT spot the summer after graduation.  The SIT week provides a transition from the experience of SSP as a camper to the very different responsibilities of an SSP staff member.  You can think of the SIT experience as a long job interview, so you have to take your responsibilities this week very seriously.

This year, we are making some changes to the SIT program:

bulletWe will only schedule one SIT per week;
bulletSITs will not be able to serve the week after they have participated at as a camper at the same site;
bulletYou must be at least 18 years old at the time you serve;
bulletIf an SIT wishes to serve prior to going as a volunteer, they will have to serve at a site other than the one they will attend as a volunteer.

It's free!  As an SIT, you do not have to pay the regular camper fee.

Eligibility.  To apply, you must be at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school the summer you are applying or before.  If you have a question about whether you are eligible, give us a call.

Application Instructions.  The application process is online.  Applicants are required to submit an application as well as a reference/evaluation form from an adult leader who knows you well.

We will begin accepting applications for the summer of 2011 around April 1, 2011.
