Other Ways to Support SSP!

Navajo Nation, Arizona

SSP has been invited to work in the remote community of Rock Point, located about 50 miles north of Lukachukai, where we have worked for two summers.  It is a beautiful area and, as always, there is plenty of work to do!  About 1,700 people live in the Rock Point district.

Accommodations.   We will be housed at the large Rock Point Community School.  We will be sleeping and doing some of our program activities in a spacious gymnasium.  The gym has locker rooms with group showers.  The school has basketball courts, a baseball diamond, and plenty of outside area for recreation.  We will be eating our meals about 5 minutes away at the Rock Point Chapter House.

Directions:  You must consult a good map to plan your trip to Rock Point, which is located in the extreme northeastern corner of Arizona on Highway 191.  Depending upon your starting location, there are several different routes to the site.

For groups coming from Arizona or California, the best route to Rock Point is to take Highway 89 north from Flagstaff towards Paige.  Turn off and go east on Highway 160 towards Tuba City and Kayenta.  You will pass through Kayenta.  At the junction of Highways 160 and 191, go south on Highway 191 for 15 miles to Rock Point.  Turn left immediately after the Mustang Gas Station at the sign for the Rock Point Community School.  Go .5 miles and turn right just before the large propane tank and Rock Point High School sign.  Go about 200 hundred feet on the dirt road and follow the “SSP” signs.

PLEASE remember that you have a long way to travel to get to this site.  In addition, the Navajo Nation is on Mountain Time, which means that you lose an hour when you enter the reservation from anywhere in Arizona.  Please allow plenty of time to reach the site NO LATER than 4 PM.
