Other Ways to Support SSP!

Applying for a Job at SSP for the First Time

  1. Complete the online application form.

  2. Select two people to provide a reference for you.  These should be adults who know you well and have insight into your maturity and leadership skills.  After contacting your references, download the SSP reference form, fill out your portion of the form, and email a copy to each reference.

  3. Write brief (no more than one-half page each) answers to the essay questions below.  Please write your essays up in a single Word document and email it as an attachment to director@sierraserviceproject.org.

  1. Why do you want to be an SSP staff member?  What are the most important things you have to offer SSP?  What do you expect to gain out of the experience?

  2. Christianity is the heart of SSP's existence and operation. Review the SSP Theology Statement.  Use one aspect of this statement to help describe where you are in your faith journey. How would you like your faith to grow as an SSP staff person?

  3. We would like to know something about your past experiences, present interests, and future dreams. Please give a us general picture of you:  Where have you lived?  What have you done?  What are the things that have made you who you are?  Where do you see yourself in the future?  (Include both church and non-church activities, leadership positions, camp or work experience, construction experience, social concerns, musical or theatrical interests, career fantasies, etc.)

  4. What experience have you had working with people from a different social or cultural different background than yours?

The Hiring Process: What You Can Expect

You will contacted shortly after we receive your application and will be scheduled for an over-the-phone, informal, informational interview.  After this conversation, you will be scheduled for a formal hiring interview during a weekend in March.  At this point, you'll be interviewed over the phone by a team of Site Directors.  You'll be notified of our hiring decision shortly after these interviews.  If you are offered a position, we will be asking for a firm commitment from you within a few days.

Please feel free to contact Rick Eaton, SSP's Executive Director, if you have any questions about this process.
