South Los Angeles House Renovation Project

Beginning in February, 2009, Sierra Service Project began the renovation of a long-boarded-up house on the corner of Budlong and Vernon Avenues in South Los Angeles.  This exciting project has been carried out by a long list of volunteer groups and individuals who have donated their time, sweat and energy! 

After about a week of work, this is what the house looked like.

The house will be occupied by Kids First Conflict Resolution and Training Services.  Kids First CEO, Deborah Thorne, is shown here showing the house to SSP's Board of Directors. The house will house offices and classes for Kids First and it will be the base of operations for Boyz2Men, Kids First's summer day camp program for African-American boys.

Converting the garage to a workroom.

All of the windows in the house were replaced with high-quality, energy-efficient windows.
